New Farm Fresh Challenge: Summer!

Hi guys!!! Oh my wow it has been a super busy summer and it is certainly flying by to say the least! It seemed like just last week we were previewing and hopping along with The Greeting Farm for their newest release and now, here we are at the beginning of August, heading into back to school season! (p.s. if you missed the fun on the farm, you can check it out here or purchase the newest release here!) There is definitely one big plus to this month flying by and that's the fact that I have one month down before the end of this deployment! I've been running around so much lately and trying to keep my kiddos entertained while maintaining my sanity in the process that my poor blog has been sorely neglected, which I'm sure you've noticed. This weekend I plan to do nothing but channel surf from my big comfy couch, just hang around the house and basically just chill because after all, that's one of the main things summer means to me. Speaking of chillaxin' in the summer, this month's Farm Fresh First challenge is all about Summer! This could mean anything from popsicles and pools to backyard barbecues with buddies, whatever you guys are feeling, show us your summer spirit! For my card, I decided to use a digi dude that's just as chill as my mood, Summer Ian

I colored him up using my copic markers and a white gel pen to decorate his swim trunks. I adore the sentiments in the Ice Cream Dream clear set from Simon Says Stamp and couldn't wait for an excuse to use this one! The papers I used are from Bo Bunny called Key Lime, layered on top of some Bazzill Card Shoppe heavyweight cardstock. I also used the puffy clouds die from memory box and a  few doodlebug sequins to finish it off. I've Got the Blues...and a Little Green too!

As you know I don't mean the sad kind of 'blues' or the music either, I mean the colors! Have you ever thought about how many shades of blue are out there? Hundreds? Who knows, who cares? All I know is that just about all the blues can be paired together with beautiful results, and when you add a splash of green as an accent? GORGEOUS! Today I bring you a good example of this (I hope) in a gift that I created for a friend of mine, who has always been there for me, in the form of a picture frame (the gift is the frame of course, not the friend ^.^).

I started with an unfinished balsa wood frame from my LCS (one of the things I mentioned a few posts back) and painted it with a really light green almost seafoam acrylic paint. once that was dry I got out my homemade mod podge and cutter and pieced a few different scrap pieces with similar color schemes to get this patchwork kind of look. Since I didn't have much DP in the shades I needed, I created the leopard print by running it through an embossing folder and inking it with pigment ink a few shades lighter. I did the same with the swirl pattern, embossing and inking in shades of blue to get the effect I was going for. I colored Ms Cheeky Geeky from The Greeting Farm with my copics and gave her a blue leopard print skirt with matching tie and headband and fussy cut her out. The sentiment is from Close To My Heart (CTMH) 'Friendship' set and the other embellishments are from my stash. I wish I could take credit for this lovely idea but I am actually CASEing this project from one of my personal favorite blogs, Rosemary's Creations, ( you can go and see her project here!). What's Black and White and Read all over???

The answer is... A NEWSPAPER!!! Hmm that was funnier when I was six... Not as funny now, and especially not since you can see the spelling of 'read' rather than hearing it and assuming I mean the color RED. Ah well it was still clever of me at the time especially since it gave me a backstory to ramble about for this post lol! Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I can get to the relevance of that story to my post! My Hubby left for Army BCT yesterday and so I got the brilliant idea to keep a journal while he's gone so he won't miss a thing while he's gone. During my last trip to my LCS, I grabbed a few things to alter/decorate, mainly made of balsa wood, (you'll see projects with those things soon so stay tuned!!!) and I found the ugliest little monogramed journals for $2. I knew they would be perfect for this journal/ scrapbook I was planning on creating so I grabbed one and immediately headed home to start beautifying my awesome find. In about an hour (not including fussy cutting the image with an X-Acto knife) this masterpiece came together:

Ok I know I say this a lot but seriously, I am IN LOVE with this alteration combo of C.C. Friday Night with Anya Strolls! Saturday I showed you guys a door hanger that I created with this same concept. It turned out so fabulous I just had to have it on something else and what better than a once ugly journal that was sitting on the shelf screaming "Take me home, Make me PRETTY!" I swear I heard it, I'm not crazy! Also it gave me a chance to use some of the washi tape I made out of a few stamps, some twinkling H2Os and a roll of inexpensive masking tape. This is so simple to do, I plan to go back and get a few more journals to alter and give as gifts. It comes together quickly and looks amazing and there are plenty of ways to personalize and customize to suit the crafter's taste. The hardest part was trying to fussy cut the image with an X-Acto knife to make sure I didn't have any empty white spaces. Its not really a necessary step but to me it looks more professional. I plan to enter this in the 7 kids challenge blog, Anything goes, Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge, It's a Mystery, and the FFF Challenge over at Splendid Stamping,  "Cut it Out" since this definitely took some time to cut out! Making a splash!

Hi guys! long time no see... well I guess its only been a few weeks but in blogger time its like a decade, or is that just me? well needless to say the pesky lemons are still giving me problems but I'm happy to announce that I am trying to look over the lemons and bask in the sunshine that grows them! I hope that made sense, it made sense in my head but it got a little confused once I actually typed it ^.^ the point is, I'm back with a splash! and what perfect way to debut my return than with this Sweet November Mermaid, Hanalei! She is my very first (hopefully of many to come) Sweet November stamp and I actually won her in a blog hop along with a gob of goodies over at one of my absolute favorite blogs to stalk, A thousand sheets of paper so a special shout out goes to Ms. Amy over at A thousand sheets because if it weren't for her awesome candy, my scrapping stuff would probably still be collecting dust! I wanted to do a haul video on my win (do people do that???) but I immediately poured everything out and began working on an altered sticky note book thingy (which by the way started of scary ugly!) and OMG I loved it so much I made a gift of it to one of my good friends who has been here from me through all my lemony issues ^.^ without further ado, lets make a splash!



This was my first time trying really RED hair with copics and it turned out ADORABLE! everyone says she looks like she could be baby Ariel from Disney's The Little Mermaid. On her tail, I tried to imitate a style Amy used over at A thousand sheets of paper, hers= gorgeouseness mine= needs more work LOL!The DP(Bo Bunny Barefoot and Bliss), Prima flowers, Hanalei stamp, baker's twine, and button were all part of my blog candy win and the swirly paper is actually just a piece of plain white paper dry embossed with the Darice Scrolls embossing folder and inked with a few different cheapie ink pads from the dollar bin at my LCS to look like ocean waves. A few rhinestones, colored with my copics to match, and the word smile using The Greeting Farm's Delicate Words Die finished my altered sticky note book. I'll be entering this little lady in the following challenges:

When Life Hands You Lemons...

Hey out there in blogland! I realized the other day how hard it is to blog when you're stressed out or upset about something so my post have been limited to non existent. Life has been handing me lemon after extra sour lemon and they are beginning to rub off on me and make me a tad sour... ok a lot sour. I haven't quite figured out how to make lemonade with those particular lemons, they're a bit hard to digest but rest assure there are many ways to juice a lemon (so they say, personally I only know of one!) and I fortunately know quite a few recipes that require lemon juice so no worries! This week's challenge at Simon Says Stamp the challenge is summer fruit, how apt since one of the first fruit I think of when I think of summer would be lemons! And what might you say is the unanimous drink of summer? LEMONADE! That's right folks who doesn't love an ice cold glass of sweet and tart lemonade on a hot Texas day? I can't think of anyone, can you? I certainly do and this card makes me thirsty just looking at it!

I used Lolli Anya for this card colored with copics and gave her a cool glass of lemonade by wiping away her lolli and cutting out a glass of lemonade with my cricut to replace it. The lemons were all hand drawn and stickled beyond all reason including the giant lemon slice in the background. The dp is a mix of something I created and a scrap of the Echo Park Paradise beach 6x6 stack and the ribbon is from my stash. The sentiment as well as the cute lil glass were cut from the Simply Charmed Cricut Cartridge. I plan to enter this card into the following challenges:

Up Up and Away!

OMG I'm so excited about my post today! I wanted to wait, to hold out until Monday but I just can't, I tell ya I just can't! I feel like a balloon over filled and ready to pop! O.k. I'll explain my balloon metaphor and my post title:
A few days ago TGF posted the theme for the retro fresh challenge, Layers. When I saw this my mind began to race because if you craft, you know there's more than one way to interpret the theme of layers. Problem is, I had TOO many ideas and before I could get a sketch down, another 'better' idea popped into my head so I had to start over of course. Well last night after bath time, my girls and I sat down to watch a little Disney Channel. And what were they playing you ask? Up (yes that's the entire title, how creative huh?) Even though the title wasn't all that great, the movie was pretty cute and for those of you who love cartoons or have little ones (I'm guilty of both!) I highly recommend it. Anyway, to get to the point, the cartoon inspired me to get my head in the clouds, so that's where I started. I knew I wanted to do a spinner card with a pinwheel because pinwheels make me think of wind. I also knew I wanted to do something with clouds, so first step, make some dp with clouds since I owned none this is how it came out

 

 

Ok so technically these are the leftover scraps. This genius didn't think to take a picture of it till after I played seamstress and snipped clipped and trimmed away at it but you get the idea, right? Came out pretty cute. My white pigment ink was not in a cooperative mood so I ended up using a white embossing powder and opaque white gel pen. I had a late night trying to make this card but it came together and in the end I was not satisfied, it looked so blah, so empty

 

 

Anya Lifts

 

 

Just looks like something is missing right? Anya Lifts was colored with copic markers and the sentiment inside the pinwheel window came in the same set. The hot air balloons were hand drawn on shrink dink and colored with either prismacolor pencils (center) or copic markers (left and right). I've really been into making my own charms and plan to do a post on that soon so be looking for it! As I said, I wasn't happy with the way it turned out, so I slept on it and in the morning came up with THIS:

I had to completely disassemble the previous card (I'm embarrassed to admit I just noticed they look pretty similar) largely because I attempted to add a sentiment directly to the blank space on the card with DISASTROUS results. Lesson learned. This time around I added another layer to the base of the card by creating a patchwork quilt looking dp. To make it I combined several leftover scraps in coordinating colors in a random order, glued them to a paper, trimmed it to fit the card base, then placed the last (big) piece of the cloud paper I made on top. For a little more color I also added a banner with the matching sentiment to the Anya Lifts set, and a few clouds on dimensionals for even more layering. Last I re attached my DIY hot air balloon charms on thicker dimensionals so that they would sit slightly higher than everything else for the final layer of my masterpiece! This was my first ever spinner card and I can now proudly show it off in the following challenges:

Something Fishy

Well as if the title wasn't self explanatory, I've got a bit of an obsession with beaches and oceans going, which is being reflected in my projects like crazy but hey, if it inspires me why not go with the flow (lol see even my jokes are watery!). And though technically I don't think a shark is a fish today I decided to make a masculine card using one with surfer Ian (whom you will see more of along with TGF's Cheeky Beach, Fleur Anya and more, once my Echo Park Paradise Beach and Bo Bunny Key Lime paper stacks arrive!). I am once again smitten, with all the ideas of beach and pool themed cards floating around my head there is no doubt I have the beach babe blues. I think I'll work on a plan to get the hubby to take us all to the beach one weekend and get this fun-shiny excitement out of my system, but for now, you guys are stuck with it so without further ado get ready to suffer the consequences:

Ian was colored with my trusty copics and the DP I used is by DCWV from Baby Boy, All Dressed Up, and the Bouquet De Fleur Stacks. The shark, splashy wave, and water bubbles all came from my sticker stash and the sentiment, from TGF's Anya Strolls. Ironic that he seems to be getting chased by the shark huh? Total coincidence that I didn't notice till after the decision to use this sentiment was decided, cool right? I know, I amaze myself sometimes with my inattention to details lol! Now the question is who's dream is being chased, the surfer or the shark??? I'll leave that decision up to you guys in blogland. Thanks to this silly little glitch I have an excuse to enter in the 7 Kids Challenge Just Wrong! A few rhinestones in the corner and some stickles here and there finished off this fun splashy card. I really think I'm getting the hang of these masculine cards now that I realize they don't all have to be drab and plain and subtle! What are you Wading For???

Aloha! Looking around blogland I see I'm not the only one bitten by the beach bug! With so many different beach and summer type challenges coming around I can't help but start my annual daydream of vacationing in Hawaii! And with Hawaii on the brain what better way to perk up my craft room *cough (kitchen table)* than with an adorable hanging sign to keep hope alive! Hey I WILL have my vacation in the Hawaiian Islands one day, but first and foremost, I want my own house built, complete with a custom kitchen and bathroom. Since hubby and I are in the process of trying to make that happen a Hawaiian vacation, as well as the new bed I so dearly need, is on hold. Now I know you're probably thinking what on earth does that have to do with the price of tea in China, or more importantly, my blog right? Well it just so happens that while replacing the wooden slats that came with my bed (which were actually quite flimsy), my hubby had two rather small pieces of wood left over. Too small for him to use for anything so he handed them over to me saying and I quote "Here, I'm sure these wont be here a week before you find something to do with them". He was right! A million and one ideas have been going through my head and I finally settled on my adorable sign! (P.S. in my project description, all the 'S' words will start with a red capital letter 'S', follow the Simon Says Stamp and Show link to find out why!)

Ahhhh, doesn't this just make you want to hit the beach? And just in time to bring cheer to the drab wet weather we're currently having here. I created this sign as I mentioned, out of a spare bit of wood. I started by painting the Summery Sandy Scene in acrylic paints. I then Stamped TGF's Fleur Anya on paper and colored her in a Sunny yellow colored dress. I Stenciled the word "Aloha!" and colored in with Prismas. Next I took a couple of Splashy Stickers from my Stash including a big wave, crab, Starfish, and Sea Shell for decoration. To complete the look, I added Stickles to just about EVERYTHING and finished it off by covering the Sun, Sea Shell and the word 'Aloha' in Judykin's Diamond Glaze. (Man that 'S' thing got old QUICK lol). As you can see from the different pictures, my masterpiece moved around A LOT but the final picture will be its forever home, well until I get my dream home anyway! I hope to enter my project in the Cupcake Inspirations Challenge where the inspiration is the most amazing cupcake I've ever seen, a beautiful beach scene, the TPE Challenge #202- Summer Time, Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge, Brought to you by the Letter "S", The ABC Challenge, O for Open, and last but not least The Greeting Farm  Retro Fresh Challenge, Bring on the Sun. What's Shakin'???

Good morning blogland! Remeber that feeling you experienced as a kid on Christmas Eve? You know the one, too excited to sleep so you keep waking up every hour on the hour hoping to catch a glimpse of sunlight. All to eager to rush to the tree and see what goodies you received from the big man in red? Did it get worse when you learned to tell time? Mine certainly did because even though there was no sign of light, the clock told you that there would be in 2 hours... 1 hour...30 minutes... you get the idea, I promise you this is going somewhere. That is EXACTLY how I've been feeling since last night when I made my first two shaker cards ever! I got an early start on the card and all that was left to do was assemble my newest creation but I had a setback. My little Minions were being bullies and would not go to sleep, stating repeatedly that they were not sleepy! Me being the boss and quite the smarty pants, I decided to call their bluff and let them stay up until they got sleepy...10pm passed and they were still up and very much active when my Hunny came home from work. One rush job, half a jar of spilled coffee grounds, and some missing heart shaped glitter later I had completed a sub par shaker card that, I suppose, was not bad for a first attempt. A word of advice, instant coffee grounds do NOT make good shaker card filling, a lesson I may or may not be speaking from personal experience on ^.^

 Well after a very dissapointing photo shoot with my not so awesome card, I caved and put them to bed, determined to do better on my next card and not wanting to wait until tomorrow, (which is now today of course!). Remember the old saying, if at first you don't succeed, stop and have a cupcake! No, wait, that's what I wanted to do...anywho, you know how it really goes! It proved to be totally true and out of my long night came this awesomeness! Another word of advice, MS Iridescent Hearts and Stars Glitter should come with a warning label. While handling them you may or may not received multiple puncture wounds which may or may not draw blood, again, hypothetically speaking, of course ^.^

I was very sleepy, even if my girls weren't so I took a few pics and tried to get some shut eye. Yeah, didn't really happen. I tossed, turned, and repeatedly checked the time until I could reasonably justify blogging so early in the morning. I'm very proud of how this card came out, so I couldn't be happier to enter her in this week's Splendid Stamping FFF Challenge, Make it Move!, the Creative Card Crew Challenge, Punches/Dies,  the Simon Says Stamp Challenge, Anything Goes, 7 Kids Challenge Blog, #74 Embellishments! and maybe last minute for the ABC Challenge N for Not Just One! Not so Ordinary Oats

Who doens't love a nice hot bowl of oatmeal on a cold, rainy morning? I know I do, but that's about the only time you'll see me eat it! Now the hubby and kidos will eat it all day long breakfast lunch and dinner, and then try it again the next day if I let them. Believe me, I've seen them do it, and it's not pretty. That being said, its a given that we run through oatmeal pretty quickly but it only just recently occoured to me to repurpose the containers to something wonderful! I recently mentioned a iamroses haul in one of my previous blogs, well I didnt exactly have an efficent way to store them without the risk of them being smashed or smooshed until I took a good look at one of those empty oatmeal canisters destined for the dump. Then it hit me, this sturdy can could easily be made to store my floral beauties! Of course the quaker guy is nice, as far as cereal box people go, but I wanted something more...hmmm, FABULOUS! so, TA-DA!

Dressed to Impress

Hi again! Today has been semi productive as I tried my hand at stepping further out of my comfort zone on an altered art project. This week's theme at Anyone for Anya? was Weddings! the ABC Challenge Blog N for Not Just One (3 or more embellishments), and 7 Kids College Fund was 'Anything but a Card' I thought I'd give it a shot and make a door sign thingy for the bride's dressing room loaded down with embellishments and this is what I came up with:

C.C. Tuesday was a bit too small so I stamped her scanned her into my computer and made her a bit larger, this also allowed me to print her multiple times to one sheet rather than trying to stamp her over and over again. Sounds brilliant right? I thought so, until, unfortunately when I added the stickles to her tutu the ink from my printer began to run so I ended up with this dalmationy spotty thing going on -__-. Oh well, as you can see, my resolve wavered and I gave the 3D paper piecing thing a shot again, it went SOOOO much better this time. Turns out just as I suspected, I was overthinking the whole process! Other than the dalmation tutu I'm pretty pleased at how this turned out! Along with the challenge at Anyone for Anya mentioned above, I also plan to enter her in the Simon Says... Flowers! as well as the FFF Paper Piecing  challenge over at Splendid Stamping along with this little lady:

Blue and Green with Envy

Hello everybody out there in blog land! Its been a beautiful day today after about 3 days of off and on  thunderstorms. The grass should be nice and green and overgrown by the end of the week at this rate, guess who's not cutting it! I'll give you a hint, IT'S ME! I'm NOT cutting it! lol In the spirtit of loving all things growing lush and green I am loving this week's DTT, now called Garden Variety Tuesday. Its a color challenge, which happens to be my favorite kind of challenge, using the colors blue and green! Without further ado, my entry:

 Garden Anya

I've been seeing 3d paper piecing popping up all over the place so I decided to give it a shot...NEVER again! ok I exaggerate maybe one day eventually possibly again but no time soon! This was a headache and I'm sure I was just overthinking everything but this was so difficult for me. pretty much every piece of Garden Anya was cut out and layered on top of another to give this (very slight : \ ) 3d effect. This literally took me hours to do and I'm not all that pleased with the way it turned out  but it was certainly a learning experience. Miss anya was colored with prisma color pencils on kraft cardstock and stickled with crystal stickles. The flowers were a free gift with my purchase from i am roses. In addition to the Garden Variety Tuesday challeng over at splendid stamping I also plan to enter this in the Simon Says... Flower Power! Challenge  . OMG I could do an entire blog entry about the awesome service, quick shipping/delivery, wonderful packaging and quality beautiful products they sell, this was my first of many more soon to come transactions with them and all I can say is WOW! be prepared to see many more flowers on my cards they have a customer for LIFE! If you're into flowers I highly recomend buying from them!

There's No Place Like Home! (PICTURE HEAVY)

Hello fellow crafters! After spending some time at my parents' house and giving them a chance to play with their grandchildren I finally made it back home! Technically speaking I've been home since Sunday, but boy have I been a busy bee! Among many other things, one of THE best things to have happened during my break was that my card making 'business' took off, sort of lol! I left my mom's house with about 4 card orders, one of which was a rather large order of baby dresser card invitations (40 to be exact) for a baby shower and 10 book cards for the same baby shower which I will be sure to post pics of once I get them complete. Today, however is mainly to showcase the card orders that I HAVE finished. I will most likely submit them for challenges to be named later in an update coming soon also. In the mean time, here ya go! I'm very excited about these

Edwin from Magnolia

This card was created for a boy's birthday who happens to be a Houston Texans fan. The image is a Magnolia colored with my trusty copics. I created the flags for the banner with my cricut 'Something to Celebrate' cart and made the star and stripe center with the 'George' font cart with red and white baker's twine to hold them up I used the tiny bubbles embossing folder to give the textured background and some alpha stickers I've had forever to spell out handsome along the side. The stars were actually orange table confetti from a party for my hubby but were recycled, recolored with copics, and given a coat of Judykins Diamond Glaze for texture and shine.

 

 

Tilda Sending Love

 

This pop up card was created for Mother's Day using another Magnolia stamp, Tilda Sending Love and also colored with copics. The DP is from DCWV and the solid green is a scrap embossed with the swirls embossing folder and lightly inked with aloe memento for definition. I colored the roses with my copics to match my card and the sentiment was from MFT. I finished off this card with some stickles here and there and a few pearls from my stash.

 Last but not least, my first pocket card! I actually hate sunflowers, they creep me out (loooong story, I wont go into that!) But someone specifically requested them, go figure. Well there was nothing to do but grin and bear it right? So I made the most of it and did my best. The image is Swiss Pixies Sunflower Lula colored with copics and stickled to death ^.^  The green DP is from the same DCWV stack used on the previous card and the rub on sentiment is also a DCWV. The yellow was actually just a scrap that I stamped and heat embossed sunflowers onto. I colored a few rhinestones I've had forever yellow with copics to match the color scheme of my card and completed the look with a ribbon recycled from a cookie basket and a (creepy) coffee filter sunflower made by me ! Hope this wasn't an overload but I was just so super excited to be back home, and I've got the cardst to prove it :)

Excuses are like....

SO... as my visit to my parents' comes to a close I realize, I've been very unproductive! There have been so many challenges I wanted to enter but either did not have what I needed or just plain ol lacked the motivation and ideas to make it happen. Very upsetting! I did however managed to create a few gems and I am very proud, and after all, its quality not quantity right? Or is that just the excuse some people (me!) use when they've been slacking off and didn't get nearly as much done as they could've? lol! Whatever the case may be, I finished this one and was too busy worying about quality of my next (not even in the works) card creation to take a picture ^.^ I do have one today for you guys though so here ya go! Don't judge, it was taken at 5am with my phone :)

Anya Lifts

She's not for any particular contest at the moment. UPDATE : I have entered this card in the Simon Says Stamp Anything Goes Challenge  and also the Splendid Stamping with The Greeting Farm: Retro-Fresh Challenge- Polka Dots and/or PlaidsA co-worker of my mom's daughter is having a birthday tomorrow and she wanted to give her something special and this is what I came up with. I paper pieced the shirt because I absolutley adore that DP from MME and for absolutely no other reason ^.^ she was colored with copic markers and look! my first attempt at coloring transparent objects and it came out AWESOME on my first try! SCORE! <---Inside joke between me and my good friend, Mrs Bea LOL

Girly Glam

Not much to say about this little lady other than I had a lot of fun coloring and paper pieceing her! I used copics 40, 41,42,43 for the hair and prisma color colored pencils for her skin. I paper pieced from a paper from my scrap pile. I used Judykins Diamond Glaze on her boots and purse and Crystal Stickles on the paper pieced zebra stripes. I plan to enter her in the Anyone for Anya? Sketchy Sort of April Challenge , Deep Oceans Challenge Blog- Favorite Color Combo , Splendid Stampin with The Greeting Farm: Retro-Fresh Challenge- Polka Dots and/or Plaidsand also the Simon Says Stamp & Show Color Challenge . It looks like its missing something to me so I may do something else to it and update the picture, I've never been able to leave well enough alone!
