Farm Fresh First: Back to School!

Happy First of the month crafters! Ok I know, its not the first and I'm super late but I swear I have a legit reason for being soooo late but I have an adorable card along with an awesome project for the new September challenge, Back to School, over at The Greeting Farm to make up for my tardiness so hopefully you forgive me! I'll even show you my card before I explain, will that help? :D I knew you loved me!

SSSC Poppy

Isn't she adorable? Her name is Poppy and she's one of the adorable girlies I got from my last SSSC subscription (you can find out more about the SSSC here!). She's not available yet but should be soon so be on the lookout! Normally I have a horrible time with back to school challenges but this year I was prepared, armed with DCWV's Homeroom Stack dp, I was ready and up for the task of creating a fun back to school themed card! I colored Poppy using my copic markers on curious metalics cryogen white cardstock and used a sentiment from an older TGF stamp set, Creepin Kit (now retired). I chose this sentiment because a lot of time we are harder on ourselves than need be and sometimes we just need to be reminded that we totally rock, especially when it comes to academics.
Now on to my excuse! While school has already started in many places, my girls don't start school until next Tuesday. We've been in NY for a year and my girls have not needed a check up or gotten sick enough to see a doctor so I hadn't found a PCP for them (bad mommy, shame on me!) Well my baby girl starts school for the first time EVER and she needed her immunizations before she could start...unfortunately it was easier said than done. Turns out the pediatricians here will only give immunizations to your child if he or she is already a registered patient. So  after much searching and deliberation, I found an office nearby with glowing reviews and I was able to get both girls early morning appointments, one on the 31st and one on the 1st (annoying right? why not the same stinkin day?!) And though my card was ready waaaaay in advance, I was a bit preoccupied with getting my girls in school so it slipped my mind to schedule a post :( . Since you guys have been awesome enough to sit through my long winded excuses, here's my ultra mega awesome (to me anyway) bonus back to school project:

Jeremiah (Twisted Kit)

Ta Da! What is this amazing complex lookin thing-a-ma-jig? Its an easel card BOX! I used a little handsome guy from  The Greeting Farm's Twisted kit by the name of Jeremiah and more of that fab DCWV homeroom dp. Like it? I have a pic tutorial coming later next week so be looking out for it, along with the last 2 mini notepads using the splash kit cuties! Till next time

Organizing Alteration

Hi blogland, hope you had an awesome weekend. Mine was over before I knew it but isn't that always the case? I believe there are too many Mondays in a year, let's petition to change that! LOL who would we even contact? Seriously though, nobody seems to like Mondays except young children who still, God forbid, look forward to waking up early and going to school. Well to shake out of my Monday melancholy I have a TGF project to put a smile on your face and make a lover of altered things swoon

Em TGF Twisted Kit

Isn't it just delish? I've been snatching up small journals, notepads, etc whenever I saw them for cheap for the last few months. Finally, inspiration hit to make myself an altered notebook in my favorite color scheme, pink and brown, I figure I may need something to keep me organized soon ;) I started off by sanding the entire outer cover (front, back, and spine) and wiping off the excess dust and fibers with a barely damp towel. Next I chose a few pieces of paper and cut them down to 6x4 to fit the front and back cover. I used a scrap of leftover woodgrain pattern paper about 2.5 inches wide and distressed the edges to cover the spine and add a rustic look to my notebook. I distressed the edges of each piece used by applying Tim Holtz walnut stain ink around the edges with a sponge. Finally I adhered everything to the mini notebook with my homemade mod podge. I decorated the front with a few dusty pink pearls, a pearl flourish and some assorted dies. The image I chose to adorn the front of my altered creation is a little lady named Em from The Greeting Farm's 8x10 Twisted Kit. Em was watercolored using my Tim Holtz distress markers and some diamond stickles to make her outfit sparkle. The sentiment is from another TGF 4x6 set, Picture Perfect (available here). Not only will this cute little notebook stay close by to jot down ideas, it will also be entered in the FFF challenge Make it Sparkle and the Retro Sketches Challenge #142. Back to School Blues

Happy Wednesday guys! Wow this summer breezed right by, seriously where did it go?! Its already time to shop for back to school stuff and I swear just last week they were putting out tents and swimsuits for summer. This week has been pretty busy and its just going to get worse as both my girls will be in school this year :( Its bitter sweet because they're so excited and I'm excited for them but its been almost 6 years since I've had the house completely to myself. Quite frankly I'm afraid the silence may actually drive me crazy lol! At least my baby girl will only be going for half a day so she can still spend the rest of the day driving me insane. This week's FFF challenge over at the greeting farm is in the Back to School spirit also, and since I don't have any papers that feel back to school-ish to me, I improvised by trying out a technique I like but have never used, the chalkboard effect technique

Desiree (Twisted Kit)

This little lady looks too cool for school with plenty of sass! I love the new Twisted kit from The Greeting Farm, all the characters have such sass and attitude. Desiree actually is one of my favorite, I'm partial to the curly girls, but also because she reminds me of the adorable child actress rockin' her beautiful natural hair, Ms Skai Jackson. She's just a big bowl of cute in my book, with sass to boot. For the chalk board I used a piece of black cardstock and colored around the edges with a plain white piece of chalk. I then smudged the chalk with my fingers and used one of the sentiments from the Creepin Kit (retired, sorry!) embossed with snow white embossing powder. I ran a piece of kraft cardstock through my Darice Wood grain embossing folder and inked the edges to give the look of a chalk board frame. Since the card was already simple I added a few enamel dots for embellishment. This was by far one of the easiest cards I've made in a long time and I think I'll do it again! Do you have any suggestions for what DP papers would be good for back to school themed cards? Please let me know.
